SEVEN KINGDOMS - DECENNIUM / Napalm Records 2017

Merci 7K !!!

ENGLISH VERSION

2013 April the 3rd, a day to remember. Heading to Lyon to see Stratovarius and Amaranthe, my revelation would have been quite different. A young American band, catched my eyes, especially when their lead singer Sabrina would replace Elize Ryd on stage during “Amanranthine”.
I discovered later their album “The Fire is Mine” and I had to wait four years to hear the following SEVEN KINGDOMS album: “Decennium”, which also mark the first steps of the band with house Napalm Records! (Not as big as house Stark but hey… What is…)

So the band is specialized in first-class powermetal, it’s fast, powerful, catchy and often kick you ass! The record starts with “Stargazers”, one of the three songs available before the release of the album. The song is a non stop piece of metal, with technical solo, perfectly executed by Camden and Kevin. Delicious masterclass lesson! Just like the intro of the following track “Undying”. Powerful with Sabrina reaching new vocal horizons, sweeter and calm. But I’ll tell you more about it later…
The band has its own style, its own universe, often influenced, lyrically, by Game of Thrones, and musically detached from what we have in Europe!
The album has various moods, with changing structures, “Castles in the Sand” and “Kingslayer”, both melancholic to me are totally different musically. With a mix of velocity, technicality and power, the band gives you what’s best for your ears!
Just a little word about the two fuckin’ great pieces of art of the record, two songs available for a while now: “In The Walls” (from the self titled EP), which is a metal masterpiece, brilliant, where Sabrina is better than ever! The other one is the first video clip of the record, “Neverending”, pure SEVEN KINGDOMS trademark, the heart of their music. These two track could and will open to you the gates of the band’s musical universe. Fool are the ones that won’t get through it!

I keep the best for the end, something I haven’t talked much about in that review: vocals. Because, according to me, it’s the one thing that will charm you. Beside the great balanced musical skills that the band offers, Sabrina Valentine’s voice is THE thing.
That voice, her range, her warmth are really transcending me. And it’s sincerity too. Nowadays, all female vocalist are trying to growl, because it’s fashion, or are trying to do opera stuff, like Tarja Turunen. But Sabrina is just doing what she does best: she can be low and powerful or high with a crystal voice, and she’s still perfect.
I felt in love with her voice four years ago and I’m still here. And when she sings great lines, well written, it’s just magic!

I will let you discover the band and their music, cause they deserve to be known!! Can’t wait the European tour!! Thank you 7K!
