Interview

SUNBURST (2016) (English Version) - Gus Drax (Guitare)

Hello Gus. First of all, thank you for taking the time to answer to our questions.

My pleasure thank you for having me.

So, to start this interview, can you introduce yourself and the band please?

Of course. We are Sunburst. A progressive Metal band from Greece. We have just released our debut album called "Fragments Of Creation" via Inner Wound recordings.
We have Vasilis Georgiou on vocals, Nick Grey on bass and Kostas Milonas on drums.
Oh! Not to forget. I am the guitar player of the band. haha

We can easily fell your influences but you also managed to turn them into your own musical way which is rare for a first album.

That’s a great compliment for us thank you. We never hide our influences. We openly admitted them. But we also never copied any of them.
We are influenced by many different bands but we use that influence to create our own style and sound. Besides that we had a very clear vision in our heads of how we wanted to sound like and to read that comment from you it’s great cause it shows that we succeeded our goal.

Unlike what you showed with « Out of the world », you‘ve focused on melodies rather than getting in music directly.

Every song of the album is different from the other but we have a common thing in every song. Melody. And even though Out Of The World is one of the most -if not the most- brutal songs of the album, the chorus is one of the most dramatic and melodic ones in the album. We didn't compromise on that. We wanted melodies in EVERY song of the album.

Personally, I am a huge fan of « Remedy of my heart » which represents within itself what the band is. A kind of business card.

Thank you. I will agree, it’s my personal favorite as well and I also think that it represents the band perfectly. It has everything from Sunburst.
Heavy riffs, melodies, solos, great vocals, technical parts, clean parts...everything.
If someone asked me to tell him the most representing song of the album, that would be it.

You’re playing with Black Fate and Paradox too. How do you manage to get some time in your schedule for that new band?

And Suicidal Angels too! Well the truth is that only Suicidal Angels are very active live and Sunburst are second to that. It really comes down to these two bands touring wise.
For example we play with Sunburst on May 6 7 8 on Belgium and Netherlands and the next weekend on May 14th we play with Suicidal in Switzerland so… you get the idea.
Black Fate and Paradox are not really that active live. They are more like...studio bands which makes my schedule possible.

How do you see Sunburst’s musical future?

More albums and touring. That’s our goal. To keep making music and to go to as many places as possible.

Are you planning to tour with?

Yes. We just returned from a tour in Belgium and Netherlands and after that we will play -for the first time- in our home country and we are discussing for more gigs as well.
 More announcements will come soon.

What do you think about the Greek metal scene?

Greece has many, really great bands and artists. What we always lacked was the means to promote and get it heard.
Now with the internet and the social media Greek bands can get heard way more easily and trust me when I say that you will hear more and more Greek bands coming out.

We’re reaching the end of the interview. Feel free to conclude and say some words to our readers. Best

Thank you very much for reading this interview. Check out Fragments of Creation and we'll see each other soon on the road.
